Call for Art: “Looking to the Future”

Are you an artist with a vision of tomorrow? We invite you to submit your work for our upcoming gallery exhibition, “Looking to the Future.” This exhibition seeks to explore and celebrate artistic interpretations of what lies ahead, from the innovative and optimistic to the speculative and transformative. This is for an Augmented Reality Gallery that is being developed in University Hall D block by New Media students Megan Perry and Kevyn Worbetz all art that is submitted with be transformed into digital assets and displayed in AR using Adobe Aero.

Theme:
“Looking to the Future” is an open call for artwork that delves into concepts of future possibilities, advancements, and projections on where we are heading. We are looking for pieces that challenge perceptions, spark conversations, and inspire hope or critical thought about the future.

Exhibition Dates: November 25th 2024 – April 2025

Eligibility:
This call is open to artists of all mediums and backgrounds currently enrolled in classes at the University of Lethbridge. Accepted mediums include painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, digital media, photography, installation, music performance in both Digital Audio Arts and BFA Music, Drama Performance, Drama Technical/ Design, Animation, 3D models, Video. We encourage you to submit work that aligns with the theme. If you wish to submit something that you feel is not specified above, please feel free to email Megan Perry  ulethargallery@gmail.com to discuss further.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Artwork: Up to three pieces per artist.
  • Mediums: All media accepted. However, some formats might need to be converted in which case we will work with the artist to make sure that it is a true representation of your art.
  • Artist Statement: A brief statement (200-300 words) describing how your work relates to the theme.
  • Bio: A short artist biography including any social media handles or where people can find you (150 words).

Formats: Max 3 files

  • Physical submission:
    • 3 photos that best showcase your art, or you can submit a video showing your art
  • Digital Drawings/ Photography:
    • 3 files, if this is a series of more than 3 please provide the 2 that best represent your series and a collage of the series.
    • .png .jpg .tiff .psd (Aero retains layer information so please include how you would like your layers displayed) .svg .gif(no more than 100 frames)
  • Music/ Sound:
    • Adobe Aero supports sound however the sound files must be attached to a visual file if you have a preference of what it is attached to please include it in your files
    • Audio files must be 50mb or smaller and no longer than 5 minutes
    • .wav .mp3
  • Video:
    • Adobe Aero does not technically support video however we have created a work around for this. We ask that you create a 1-minute trailer for your video that is to be exported in .tiff format and zipped in a folder. If this trailer includes sounds, please also include the audio for the trailer (see section above).
    • The video itself will be hosted on our website and people will be able to click a link to it through your trailer.

  • 3D Sculptures/ Animation:
    • Please make sure to pack your textures and animations into your models. Please also include your texture images in a .zip with your model and animations.
